Common Problems and Solutions
Problem & Description
Possible Fixes
When I open an ebook on the Mobipocket Reader, all I get is unreadable text.
This most commonly occurs when the version of the reader you have installed on your device is older than the device itself. The most common solution for this is to simply install the latest Mobipocket Reader.
I get a message on my screen stating that in need to register my reader within a certain number of days or it will be disabled.
Rest assured that you will not be left without a reader. Mobipocket has 2 readers... the Pro Reader and the Standard Reader. The Pro Reader generally sells for about $19.95 and the Standard Reader is free. When you initially install the free reader onto your device, all the features of the Pro Reader are installed. These extra features unique to the Pro Reader will function for 14 days. If within the 14 days you decide not to register and pay for the Pro Reader, these extra features with be disabled and the Standard Reader will remain for as long as you want. If you ever you decide to purchase the Pro Reader, these features will be re-enabled using a registration code that is given you when you purchase.
The Mobipocket Reader file that I download from the internet will not work on my handheld device.
The Mobipocket Reader file that you download from the internet is simply an executable (.exe) file that is for installing the reader. This file is not for your handheld device. You need to double-click on this file to begin the installation process. During the installation the appropriate files need for the reader will be installed to your device.
I have a Palm OS device and during the install I am given 3 options. Which do I choose?
If you are using a Device with Palm OS 5.0 or higher that is not a Sony you should select the first option (High Resolution).
If you are using a device with Palm OS 3.x to 4.x you should select the second option (Low Resolution).
If you device is a Sony High Resolution device then you should choose the third option (Sony High Res).
The personal notes, highlighting, personal cross-reference links, auto-scroll and other features no longer appear on my reader.
This is because the reader you have installed is the free Standard Reader. When initially installed the features of the Pro Reader are enabled and will function for 14 days. If you decide to register and purchase the Pro Reader, these extra features will remain.
